Winners Named in the 2011 Idaho Innovation Awards

Winners were announced last night during the sixth annual Idaho Innovation Awards, presented by Stoel Rives LLP, Kickstand and Idaho Technology Council (ITC) and sponsored by the Idaho Business Reviewand Idaho National Laboratory. Winners and finalists were honored at a special awards presentation during the Idaho Technology Council’s second annual Hall of Fame Celebration at the Boise Centre on the Grove.

As the state’s only innovation awards program, the Idaho Innovation Awards recognize innovative accomplishments in four categories. The 2011 Idaho Innovation Award winners are as follows:

Commercialized Innovation of the Year

Sports Concussion Alert System by Ambient Sensors, LLC

Early-Stage Innovation of the Year

Potato Products With Enhanced Resistant Starch by University of Idaho

Innovative Company of the Year


Innovator of the Year

Dr. Carl Thornfeldt, President and CEO, Episciences, Inc.

The nominations were judged by a Selection Committee consisting of leaders from Idaho’s business, technology and academic communities. Votes were tallied by accountants at Cooper Norman.

Following the announcement of the 2011 Idaho Innovation Award winners, Richard Raimondi, Idaho Technology Council Chairman announced the induction of Jack Lemley and Steve Hodges into the ITC “Hall of Fame.” Governor Butch Otter was on hand to join in the celebration, along with more than 600 individuals from Idaho’s business and academic communities. The evening concluded with a keynote address by Phil Bond, former President and CEO of TechAmerica.

The Idaho Innovation Awards is also supported by Cooper Norman and Idaho TechConnect.
