Innovative Company of the Year

This category is designed to recognize innovative companies; companies that have implemented an innovative business model, and provide an environment that supports innovation in all aspects of its operations.

  • Nominated companies must have a presence in Idaho. The company does not need to be headquartered in Idaho, but it must have at least one facility in the state.
  • The company is known in its industry as a leading, innovating company for one or more reasons. For example, its culture, management, products or services, technology and/or marketing.
  • The company has exemplified the use of an innovative solution to overcome a challenge or obstacle.
  • Innovation can be quick and exponential or slow and incremental. It should set the company apart from the competition.
  • The company has a unique, clear and relevant strategy and uses innovation as a means to achieve strategic goals.

Innovator of the Year

This category is designed to recognize innovative professionals; women and men who demonstrate innovative characteristics and thinking in their careers, accomplishments and leadership.

  • Nominees must be professionals working at a company in Idaho. The company does not need to be headquartered in Idaho as long as it has at least one facility in Idaho, and the nominee is an Idaho resident.
  • Nominees must have substantial experience in his or her field.
  • Nominee is the first to develop new ideas, more effective processes, services, products or technology.

Early-Stage Innovation of the Year

This category is designed to recognize innovations that are less than five years old, are not commercialized and are still in or just emerging from the R&D stage.

  • The innovation must be less than five years old and can be from an emerging/start-up company, an established company or from a nonprofit/academic entity such as a university technology transfer office.
  • The innovation has not been commercialized and is not yet generating revenue.
  • The innovation must be created or a primary portion of the work on the innovation must have been performed by an Idaho-based company (at an Idaho location).

Commercialized Innovation of the Year

This category recognizes innovations from established companies that are commercialized, on the market contributing to the local economy, and generating revenue.

  • The innovation must be commercialized, on the market contributing to the economy, and generating revenue.
  • The innovation must have been created or a primary portion of the work on the innovation must have been performed by an Idaho-based company (at an Idaho location).
  • The innovation must have been “recently” developed. Because many innovations do not have a clear-cut beginning or end in its evolution, the organizers have chosen not to set a definitive time frame on the nomination’s creation.

Consumer Product of the Year

This category is designed to recognize innovations in consumer products that that are meeting a market need, represent a fundamental change in its space and has the potential to revolutionize the process, product, segment or scientific field.

  • This is a new concept, technology or product.
  • The innovation/product is different from existing technology/products.
  • The innovation fills a niche or is meeting a market need.
  • This innovation has the potential to generate sales/revenue OR is currently generating significant sales/revenue.
  • This innovation represents a fundamental change in its space.
  • This innovation has the potential to revolutionize the process, product, segment or scientific field.
  • The innovation must have been created or a primary portion of the work on the innovation must have been performed by an Idaho-based company (at an Idaho location).
